In early November we updated the Dales Water blog with Part 1 of a domestic borehole refurbishment project which you can read about here. We’re pleased to announce the project is now complete and the refurbished borehole is fully up and running.

Background on the Project

The site in question had an old borehole drilled in 1954 that required a full revamp. The dated infrastructure was the main problem along with an unsealed headworks meaning it was no longer compliant with regulations. You can see an image of the old setup below:

Our Solution

The project was undertaken as part of a complete farmhouse redevelopment and our engineers were on site before any other building works had commenced. As you can see from the image below, our system is on blocks ready for when the floor is re-laid in the outbuilding and brought up to a new level.

After our initial site visit we designed a new delivery system to replace the antiquated gravity fed tank. Two of our engineers then worked on site to install a new rising main, seal the headworks on the borehole and pressurise the supply.

Our delivery system makes use of an e.sybox which is ideal for a property like this thanks to its efficiency. The box has been installed horizontally along with a WRAS approved large water storage tank. The borehole is located in an outhouse building which can get very cold in winter and this is where the e.sybox’s frost protection will prove extremely useful.

In terms of water treatment this particular borehole was drilled into a chalk aquifer which means the water quality is very good straight from the ground. No treatment was required to make it potable however the water was very hard; this can result in scale build up on infrastructure that can be costly to repair later down the line.

With that in mind we also installed a water softener and a UV filter for bacterial control. This not protects the pipework from calcium carbonate deposits that can clog plumbing (reducing efficiency of the system or in some cases causing complete failure).

Works Undertaken

  • New Rising Main
  • Sealed Headworks
  • New automated delivery system
  • Water storage tank installed
  • e.sybox installed
  • Water softener and UV filter fitted

A Happy Customer

Just a quick email to let you know that everything has been completed with the water pump and softener at my brother’s farm now. He is very pleased with all the work carried out and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for an excellent service from beginning to end. Please pass on my thanks to Nigel and Carl for all their help and very professional service.
